포드의 차세대 자동차를 중국에서 생산하다. 왜?

안녕하세요? 허니입니다. 오늘은 미국 기업인 포드가 미국그리고 멕시코도 아닌 중국에 공장을 짓는다는 소식을 접해 포스팅합니다. 트럼프는 모든 기업에 자국에 공장을 지으면 엄청난 혜택을 준다는 공략이 있었는데 왜 포드는 미국이 아닌 해외로 선택했을까요? 역시 돈 문제가 아닐까 합니다. 아무리 기업을 위한 정책을 한다해도 값싼 중국 노동력을 따라갈수 없나 봅니다.

Ford to ship Focus to U.S. from China

포드 포커스, 멕시코 대신 중국에서 생산

Ford Motor will ship its next-generation Focus compact from China to the U.S. instead of from Mexico. The company said the move will save it $500 million. 

포드는 멕시코 대신 중국에서 차세대 포커스 컴팩트를 미국으로 수송할 것입니다. 이번 조치로 5억 달러를 절약하게 될 것이라고 말했습니다.

In January, Ford killed plans to build a Focus plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, after President Donald Trump criticized it for shipping small car production south of the border. Ford said then it would instead make the new Focus at an existing plant in Hermosillo. 

1월에, 트럼프 대통령이 포드가 소형 자동차 생산을 국경의 남쪽으로 옮기는 것을 비판한 이후 멕시코의 산 루이스 포토시에 포커스의 공장을 지으려는 계획을 철회했습니다. 대신 에르모시요에 있는 기존의 공장에서 새로운 포커스를 만들 것이라고 말했습니다.

Jeff Tomasulo of Vespula Capital: 

베스풀라 캐피탈의 제프 토마술로는 다음과 같이 말합니다.

"I think it's a little bit placating the Trump Administration. It's very interesting to say that they're going to save money doing it from China than Mexico considering the distance of able being to ship those cars." 

"저는 이같은 행동이 트럼프 행정부를 약간 달래어 주는 것이라 생각합니다. 자동차를 운송할 수 있는 거리를 고려할 때, 중국에서 생산하는 게 비용을 절약할 것이라는 사실은 매우 흥미롭습니다."

Ford said it's cheaper to build and ship cars to the U.S. from Mexico than China. But it said shipping from China will save money because it has to retool only one plant, the existing factory in Chongqing, rather than two plants to supply North America. 

포드는 중국보다 멕시코에서 차를 생산하여 미국으로 운송하는 것이 더 저렴하다고 말했습니다. 그러나 북미에 공급하기 위해 중국으로부터 운송하는 것이 두 개의 공장 대신 기존의 충칭에 있는 한 개의 공장만 설비를 교체하면 되기 때문에 비용을 절감해 줄 것이라고 말했습니다.
