장애인을 위한 워터파크 개장

안녕하세요? 허니입니다. 오늘은 장애인을 위한 좋은 소식이 있어서 포스팅을 해 보겠습니다. Huff Post에서 장애인을 위해 워터파크를 개장한 고든과 매기 하트먼 부부에 대해 글이 올라왔습니다. 저는 이런 소식들은 전 세계인에게 공유 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 장애인을 위한 놀이동산이나 편의시설이 부족합니다. 우리나라도 장애인을 위한 워터파크와 편의시설이 많이 늘어났으면 좋겠습니다.

A new water park in San Antonio is making sure kids with disabilities don’t miss out on the splashing fun this summer.
미국 텍사스 주 샌안토니오에 장애를 가진 아이들을 위한 워터파크가 열린다.

 

Morgan’s Inspiration Island is an extension of Morgan’s Wonderland, a theme park built to be inclusive for all its guests, including kids with disabilities. Like Wonderland, all parts of the Inspiration Island water park are wheelchair-accessible. Guests with special needs are also admitted at no cost.
'모건의 영감 넘치는 섬'은 '환상의 모건 나라'를 확장한 워터파크로, 장애인을 비롯해 다양한 사람들을 위해 지어진 놀이공원이다. '환상의 모건 나라'와 같이, '모건의 영감 넘치는 섬' 역시 휠체어를 탄 채로 출입할 수 있으며, 장애인은 무료로 입장 가능하다.

 

Morgan’s Wonderland and Inspiration Island are the creations of Gordon and Maggie Hartman, a couple whose daughter has physical and cognitive challenges.
이 놀이공원은 고든과 매기 하트먼 부부가 만든 것으로, 신체장애와 인지장애를 가진 딸 '모건'을 위해 짓게 됐다.

 

“We decided to call it Morgan’s Inspiration Island because Morgan truly has been the catalyst for every project we’ve pursued to help the special-needs community,” Gordon said in a press release.
하트먼 부부는 "이 워터파크를 '모건의 영감 넘치는 섬'으로 부르게 된 이유는 우리의 모든 프로젝트에 모건이 영감을 주었기 때문이다."라고 밝혔다.

 

Other features of the $17-million Morgan’s Inspiration Island, which opens Saturday, include waterproof RFID (radio-frequency identification) wristbands so parents can keep track of their kids, a seven-story lighthouse and a water play area called Rainbow Reef, which has water that can be warmed for guests with sensitivity to cold.
17일(현지시각) 개장하는 '영감의 섬'은 1,700만 달러의 예산으로 지어졌다. 이곳에 방문하는 모든 어린이에게는 부모가 위치를 확인할 수 있도록 하는 전파 식별 팔찌가 제공되며, 방문객들은 7층짜리 등대와 따뜻하게 데워진 수영장 등에서 놀 수 있다.

 

In a press release, Gordon said the team behind Inspiration Island consulted with water park professionals, doctors and experts in special education and special needs, as well as received input from local teachers, parents and caregivers.
고든 하트먼은 워터파크 전문가와 의사, 특수 교육 전문가 등과 함께 워터파크를 기획했고, 지역 주민들의 도움도 받았다고 밝혔다.

 

The team also collaborated with the University of Pittsburgh to feature air-powered waterproof wheelchairs. According to the university’s Human Engineering Research Laboratories, the innovative PneuChair trades batteries and electronics for “high-pressured air as an energy source” and charges in 10 minutes. The park offers private areas for guests to transfer out of their personal wheelchairs to the waterproof ones.
또한, 피츠버그 대학교의 도움을 받아 바람으로 움직이는 방수 휠체어도 제공하게 됐다. 대학교에 따르면, 이 특별한 휠체어는 배터리나 전기 대신 고압 공기를 에너지원으로 쓰며, 10분 만에 충전된다. 방문객들은 평소 사용하는 휠체어 대신 이 방수 휠체어를 쓸 수 있다.

 

With help from the attractions and special features, the team at Morgan’s Inspiration Island hopes to ensure all of its guests will have fun without worry. “Morgan’s Inspiration Island promises to give individuals with physical or cognitive special needs a place where they can splash and play without barriers,” Gordon said.
한편, 하트먼 부부는 '영감의 섬'을 방문한 모든 이들이 즐겁기를 바란다며, "장애를 가진 이들도 장애물 없이 놀 수 있어야 한다"라고 말했다.
