Set in America’s wildest state, the largest Alaskan glacier accessible by car is just a quick two hour drive from Anchorage and it’s open year-round. The 26-mile-long Matanuska Glacier is set amid the towering Chugach Mountains and the sight alone is wildly impressive. For those craving a little more than dramatic views, adventure seekers can actually hike on the glacier; but for accessing the most incredible ridgelines, you should hire one of the many local guides and get outfitted with the right gear.
